Hi, I’m Brooke
Hi there. I’m Brooke Eliason (pronounced “e-listen”), a Salt Lake City native that’s simply obsessed with all things food. I started Female Foodie in 2010 when I was living in the little touristy town of West Yellowstone, Montana and decided to document my experiences trying every single restaurant in town.
Twelve years later, we have hundreds of restaurant guides and restaurant-inspired recipes powered by yours truly and our incredibly talented team of food writers and recipe developers across the country. It is an honor and privilege to engage in the “work” that I do every day.
My perfect day includes throwing together a decadent breakfast sandwich with James Taylor playing in the background, followed by a long, scenic hike in the mountains, and ending things with a slow, sit-down dinner (pizza or pasta!) with my family outside while the sun sets– don’t forget something chocolate for dessert.
I’m married to my best friend and the love of my life, Cody Eliason, and we love being parents to our two boys, George and Freddie. As a family, we have lived in SLC, Austin, and now the Portland area, and we even spent 18 months on the road, traveling our way through the U.S. and Europe. I have made life-long friends through this foodie adventure and hope to meet you too!
Meet the foodies
Brooke Hafen: Sr. Food Writer & Editor, Seattle
In Brooke’s opinion, gathering around the table is the key to happiness. While she has always appreciated good food, her passion for palate-pleasing was really ignited when she moved to Seattle in 2015 and began obsessively tasting her way through the city’s incredible dining scene. After seven years in the PNW, Brooke and her family have returned to their home state of UT and remain determined to discover the best SLC eats. When she isn’t planning her next meal, you’ll find Brooke throwing an extravagant party for her loved ones or cozied up in sweats watching trashy tv. There is no in between.
Jillian Fox: Sr. Food Writer & Editor, Austin
A Wyoming native loving the warm Texas sunshine since 2015. Jillian is a Registered Dietitian turned self-taught food photographer, which is perfect for her Austin food bucket list that’s a mile long. Jillian loves cooking new recipes and binge-watching British TV shows when her two cute boys are in bed.
Katie Calton: Recipe Developer, Utah County
A native Utahn but Texan at heart, Katie is usually eating, cooking, or daydreaming about food. Aside from being a passionate eater, Katie is a full-time writer side-hustling as a traveler, artist, and amateur chef. She loves her dog and has been known to get misty eyed at excellent cheeses.
Tyler Anastasio: Recipe Developer
Tyler thinks about what she’ll make for lunch while she’s eating breakfast. A born foodie, she has been living in the restaurant-centric Portland area for ten years by way of the East Coast where she received her BA in fine art & art history. Tyler now uses her artist’s touch to create stunning charcuterie boards and grazing tables for her company WildSalt Studio which she has been running for 3 years. When she’s not conjuring up new recipes she can be found daydreaming about her next trip to anywhere.
Amanda Proudfit: Sr. Food Writer, Denver
Amanda is a freelance photographer who currently lives in Denver, CO but is constantly on the go traveling as much as possible. She has a deep affinity for the outdoors, traveling and food, and loves photographing and writing about breakfast, lunch, dinner and everything in between with Female Foodie.
Katie Harper: Sr. Food Writer, San Antonio
Full time mama to two babies and wife to main squeeze Thomas, who all happily entertain her love of dining out. BS in studio art/photography and culinary arts. Home was all over the globe until settling recently in San Antonio where she plans to find all good tacos and explore the Alamo City’s best offerings.
Kylie Moe: Sr. Food Writer, Salt Lake City
Kylie plans her days around food! Working as a School Counselor by day, she dedicates her evenings/weekends to finding the best food around. Her current cravings are sushi, hamburgers, and cookies. She loves traveling for the chance to eat new foods and especially likes Hawaii, New York, and Taiwan.
Lauren Millington: Sr. Food Writer, Phoenix
Lauren is a full-time event planner from California who recently relocated to Phoenix. She loves to travel and firmly believes the best way to explore a new city is by eating your way through it. When she’s not on the road, she spends all her free time with her husband. They love weekend getaways, hiking, and, of course, eating out!
Ashlyn Hertzberg: Sr. Food Writer, San Francisco
Ashlyn is a San Francisco Bay Area native who recently graduated from the University of Arizona. She loves checking out the local food hot spots since she’s a lover of pizza, sushi, and burritos. Ashlyn also enjoys photography, traveling, going to concerts and staying in binge-watching her favorite shows!
Bonnie Bradford: Sr. Food Writer, Seattle
Bonnie and her husband are living the dream in downtown Seattle. As a foodie and photographer, nothing excites her more than capturing the incredible restaurant options in her favorite city. She loves a good hike, being with family, and baking a new recipe any chance she gets.
Ellen James: Sr. Food Writer, Washington DC
Ellen is originally from beautiful Moab, Utah, and is the mother of four almost grown children. Working on Capitol Hill keeps her busy, but she spends weekends trying all the incredible food Washington, DC has to offer. If she ever finds free time, you can find her cooking, traveling, playing hostess, or reading (mostly cookbooks).
Celeste Lemus: Food Writer, Orange County
Celeste can often be found roaming the streets of Orange County searching for the next perfect bite. You can also find her running around Disneyland with her two year old Malakai, and her husband Allen. She loves all things pop culture, cooking, Angels baseball, and live music. One of her ultimate passions is sitting around a table eating delicious food with her loved ones.
Moriah Quenneville: Food Writer, Salt Lake City
Moriah is an event planner by day, and going to grad school to become a therapist by night. In her free time, she loves cooking for others, trying new restaurants, going to movies, reading, and traveling. When it comes to food, she is especially passionate about fries and ice cream. She lives in Salt Lake City with her husband and dog and can usually be found wearing something sparkly.
