If you’re looking for an ice cream adventure, this is a place you need to try. Lick Honest Ice Creams was started by two dudes who wanted better ice cream. Anthony (one of the co-founders) grew up eating homemade ice cream and when you can’t find what you’re looking for, you make it yourself. He teamed up with Chad and in 2011 opened their first store in Austin. Now, they are 3 stores strong and San Antonio is so grateful.

Take a good look. These aren’t your typical flavors and if thats not your thing, thats totally ok. But I would encourage you to be brave friends, because although they have things like roasted beets and fresh mint, they also carry well done classics like sweet cream strawberry and hill country honey and vanilla bean. All of the milk and cream used at Lick Honest Ice Creams comes from a local, family-owned dairy in Central Texas; and EVERYTHING else is made by hand in their kitchen.

As you know, I generally like uncomplicated, well balanced food and I was a little skeptical at things like goat cheese, thyme and honey. But I tried all the flavors that day and was very surprised at how balanced they all were. None were overbearing or too sweet. I love that they don’t spend all that effort in getting good cream and milk to drown out it’s subtlety with too much sugar and flavor.
