FAQ
I want to learn more about blogging- where can I start?
Female Foodie Elite is a community I lead of bloggers and online influencers. Together we learn about important topics including photography, editing, SEO, monetization, etc. There are 100+ video tutorials, monthly webinars with noteworthy bloggers, local meetups, and themed months with book club discussions. Check it –> femalefoodie.com/elite.
What do you take your photos with?
I take all of my photos with a Canon EOS Rebel T1i and use both a Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM lens and the Canon EF 35mm f/2 IS USM wide-angle lens.
What do you use to edit your photos?
I do all of my photo editing on Adobe Lightroom. It’s intuitive and produces a great result every time.
How do you choose where to eat out?
I like to utilize a combination of word of mouth, networking through other food bloggers/instagrammers, and Google. I try to avoid over-saturated applications or sites but will sometimes refer to those if I’m strapped for information.
What is your favorite restaurant?
Without question one of the most difficult questions I’m asked! For the best answer to this question check out my Top 10 Places to Eat in Salt Lake City for my tried and true list of foodie spots in my hometown.
Is Female Foodie your full time job?
I currently juggle both managing Female Foodie and working part time as a medical speech-language pathologist here at a hospital in Salt Lake City. I deal mostly with geriatric patients affected by traumatic brain injuries, strokes, and other degenerative diseases. I love helping people through this career and am still in awe that there is life after school.
How do you stay healthy?
Although I certainly do eat out often (usually 3-5 xs per week if I’m not vacationing), I prioritize healthy eating when I’m at home and have found lots of satisfaction through running, hiking, and almost anything that will get me outside. 2017 has been dedicated to triathlon! I’m currently training for my first Ironman. Wish me luck!
I have a specific restaurant question- where do I ask?
Shoot me an email! I will respond as soon as I can – brooke@femalefoodie.com.
Do you eat all of the food that you photograph?
I eat 100% of the food that I photograph and review. I also share photos of food from my husband’s plate(s). He always let’s me have a bite.
Do you like to cook?
I absolutely LOVE to cook and have a small collection of recipes on Female Foodie. I enjoy creating things in the kitchen and attribute this love to my mother. She’s a master foodie herself and shares her original recipes and culinary expertise at A Bountiful Kitchen, my go-to blog for the best recipes in the world.
Does your husband just love eating all great food all the time?
My husband is my #1 fan. He is extremely supportive of all my endeavors with Female Foodie, whether that’s trying out a new restaurant, proof reading a blog post, or sharing creative ideas with me. He has inspired me to grow Female Foodie into a community and continuously cheers me on.
Do you ever post negative reviews?
No. I choose to not post negative reviews on Female Foodie for two main reason: 1) I refuse to take responsibility for negatively impacting a restaurant’s livelihood or success, regardless of the quality of dining experience they have to offer and 2) there are too many amazing restaurants to be excited about. I have specifically chosen to focus my energy on highlighting great experiences rather than wasting time on the negative ones.
Or about places that were just s0-so?
I have hundreds of photos from mediocre restaurants that I’ll simply never share. My mission at Female Foodie is to highlight only GREAT restaurant experiences- places I’d feel comfortable recommending to a close friend or family member. I will never post on a place I did not like, regardless of how great the photo is or how nice the server was.
I am a restaurant owner or brand manager. How can I get in touch with you for a collaboration?
Please visit my “work with me” page and fill out the contact form to discuss collaborations, free-lance photography, mentoring, etc.
What are your plans with Female Foodie?
Female Foodie initially began as a place where I shared great foodie experiences from my personal life. Being Salt Lake City based, most of these experiences were in Utah. In 2016 I expanded my recommendations from just me to a team of foodies across the nation. Together, it’s our goal to bring you the best restaurants and dining experiences across the country.
