Salt Lake City: Asian Star

Tags: Asian

If you had known me in high school and asked me what my favorite restaurant was, I would have said Asian Star without a doubt. These days, I like way too many places to ever choose a favorite, but I still love Asian Star and convince my whole family to go there on the regular.

Asian Star is pretty much your classic Chinese food joint, but eaten behind an all-glass exterior looking out over the Wasatch Front. I can’t think of a better place to eat Chinese food surrounded by friends and family. And you’re definitely going to want to show up with plenty of friends and family, because the portions are made to share and you’re going to want to try a little bit of everything.

So let’s get straight to the point, because I know what you’re thinking: What should I order?! Honestly, depending on what you like, you’re sure you find something that speaks to you, but here are a few of my faves:

Walnut Shrimp: My family calls this “Krispy Kreme shrimp” because it’s pretty much shrimp with a donut glaze and it’s amazing. A staple at any Chinese restaurant but Asian Star does a fantastic job. Beef Sirloin: As their menu says, “Try it, if you want really tasty beef.” And broccoli or snow peas.

General Tao’s Chicken: Perhaps the quintessential dish to order when you’re craving Chinese, but I could seriously eat this every day. They have perfected this one in my opinion. It’s so good! Chow Mein: I’m not a big fan of celery, myself, but my dad always orders the vegan version of this and swears by it when he wants something light to balance out all the protein, and I’ll take his word for it!

If you’ve never been to Asian Star, make sure you stop by and try it out next time you have a large group of people to entertain! You can’t beat the experience, the exceedingly friendly staff, or the delicious food!
