&Pizza is on our list of the best pizza in Washington DC because there is something here for everyone. This is the perfect fast-casual place for a quick lunch, dinner or late night snack (open till 4 am!). Think of &Pizza as the Chipotle of pizzas, you can pick something off the menu or create your own pizza in an assembly line fashion. This place has options. You choose everything-your crust, sauce, and toppings. They make it right in front of you and then send it through the oven. Extremely affordable and located all throughout the city, &Pizza still has that “gourmet” feel due to their high quality ingredients. Take our favorite (and bestseller), the American Honey. Spicy tomato, mozzarella & goat cheese, pepperoni, arugula, then drizzled with hot honey.  That’s honey pooled in the pepperoni pictured above, not grease. Literally amazing! &Pizza has vegan and gluten free options too.

If you want to break out of the regular Neapolitan pizza scene, visit Pete’s New Haven. Pete’s has been serving up slices in DC for over a decade, you can find them in two locations-the DC neighborhood of Tenley Town and Arlington, VA. Pete’s has a heavy East Coast influence with their APizza (pronounced “ah-Beets”), a style that is commonly found in New Haven, Connecticut. This pizza is cooked in a coal fired oven and has a simple crunchy crust, almost like New York Style. The traditional New Haven pizza features littleneck clams, garlic, olive oil, oregano, and pecorino cheese and is a must try! A true East Coast experience and so very unique that it absolutely had to be on our list of the best pizza in Washington DC.

8. Valentino’s

A comprehensive list of the best pizza in Washington DC from Presidential favorites to holes in the wall, for the entire DC/Maryland/Virginia area!

Valentino’s is a casual spot in Alexandria, Virginia and the best New York Style Pizza in the DMV. A bit off the beaten path but absolutely worth the drive, you can come in and order by the slice (our favorite), a whole pizza, or even delivery! Valentino’s is true New York style pizza, with the most amazing thin crust. This pizza has zero “flop” with a perfect crispy bottom so you get a good little crunch when you take a bite. The menu says “topped very generously” and that is no exaggeration, these pizzas are loaded. A slice or two is more than enough to fill you up. Valentino’s has a huge menu, pastas, calzones and various starters. Be sure to try the Spinach and Cheese roll, which tastes like greek spanakopita, but with pizza dough.

7. Pizzeria Paradiso

A comprehensive list of the best pizza in Washington DC from Presidential favorites to holes in the wall, for the entire DC/Maryland/Virginia area!

Looking for a place to go for date night or when you want to eat pizza but also feel classy? Let us formally introduce you to Pizzeria Paradiso. This cozy spot has a warm romantic vibe and a small menu where everything is delicious. Paradiso originally opened in DC over 20 years ago and now has multiple locations in DC (DuPont circle, Georgetown, Spring Valley) and one in Old Town Alexandria. It’s extremely popular and known for its high quality pizzas, appetizers, salads and extensive draft beer selections. We love the Polpette (meatball appetizer) and Quattro Formaggi (four cheese) pizza. The combination of the gorgonzola, pecorino, grano padano, and mozzarella cheese is so flavorful and perfect on its own without any sauce. We like to think of it as a fancier and upgraded version of a plain “cheese pizza”.

6. We, the Pizza

A comprehensive list of the best pizza in Washington DC from Presidential favorites to holes in the wall, for the entire DC/Maryland/Virginia area!

Everybody talks about We, the Pizza. Is it really that good? We say 100% it is. First of all, it obviously has a great “punny” name that gets a lot of attention, but this pizza is worth the hype because everything on the menu is seriously good, landing it a deserved spot on our list of best pizza in Washington DC. There are fun flavor combos here, a few of the best are the Forest Shroomin Pie, Buffalo Chicken Pie, and the Honey Ham & Pineapple. We, the Pizza has two locations, the most known is on Capitol Hill within walking distance of Congress and the Smithsonian museums on the National Mall. Touristy? For sure. But locals eat here too! Grab a slice for lunch while seeing the sights, or a whole pie to go for your office.

Pizza for breakfast? Yes please! The best brunch pizza in Washington DC is The Burlington at All-Purpose Shaw, located downtown. This mouth watering pizza features breakfast sausage, a poached egg and the perfect hint of maple syrup making it the ultimate combination of sweet and spicy. Breakfast pizza not your thing? No problem, all of these Jersey-style, deck oven pizzas are to die for with crust that is almost like French bread, crispy on the outside but fluffy and airy inside. Try our favorite, the Duke #7 and be sure to check out their new location near Nationals Stadium as well!

4. Pupatella

A comprehensive list of the best pizza in Washington DC from Presidential favorites to holes in the wall, for the entire DC/Maryland/Virginia area!

If you’re looking for the best white pizza in the DMV, Pupatella in Arlington has you covered. These beautiful Neapolitan pizzas are baked in a 900 degree oven and Pupatella is certified by the Italian Assozione Verace Pizza Napoletana which observes strict traditional Neapolitan pizza making rules. You really can’t go wrong when choosing a pizza here, but we absolutely crave the white pizza and their menu has a whole white pizza section! Our favorite is the Buffalo Bianca, with a delicious “Italian Cream” base, basil and prosciutto di parma. Simple but so delicious. The crust on these pizzas is unbelievable. Extremely chewy, pull apart soft crust, and really not crispy at all. It’s honestly good enough to eat plain. Save room for their house-made gelato for dessert!

A comprehensive list of the best pizza in Washington DC from Presidential favorites to holes in the wall, for the entire DC/Maryland/Virginia area!

Del Ray Pizzeria is easily some of the best pizza in Washington DC, and not just because the President of the United States thought so. Located in the darling neighborhood of Del Ray in Alexandria, Virginia about 15 minutes outside of DC, this little spot has an amazing laid back vibe, outdoor patio, and is famously known for being a favorite of former President (and foodie) Barack Obama. If you’re looking for deep dish, this is hands down the place to go, but their hand tossed crust is also phenomenal. Our favorite pizzas are the Al Capone (pictured here), Barack My World, and The Hills. Get the buffalo broccoli starter and thank us later.

2. 90 Second Pizza

A comprehensive list of the best pizza in Washington DC from Presidential favorites to holes in the wall, for the entire DC/Maryland/Virginia area!

90 Second Pizza is some of the best Neapolitan Pizza in the District and had to be near the top of our list of best pizza in Washington DC. Located in Georgetown and new to the area, you could blink and miss this fast casual shop, so keep an eye out! True to the name, the pizza cooks in 90 seconds thanks to their specialty oven imported from Italy. While the pizza cooks fast, the authentic dough takes over 48 hours to prepare and you can taste the quality! It is extremely chewy and soft, just the way we like it. The fan favorite pizza is the “90 Second” which has their famous San Marzano Tomato Sauce, mozzarella cheese and delicious spicy salami. Fold your personal pizza like a book and enjoy every bite. These pizzas are the perfect size and you don’t feel too full after having one, which we really appreciate. Added bonus, they have vegan options too!

1. 2AMYS

A comprehensive list of the best pizza in Washington DC from Presidential favorites to holes in the wall, for the entire DC/Maryland/Virginia area!

2Amys is a DC institution and naturally number 1 on our list of best pizza in Washington DC. Located in Cleveland Park, this extremely well known Neapolitan pizza joint has been a city favorite for years, so if you come for dinner be prepared to wait a while. 2Amys has a great atmosphere, black and white tiled floors, and an open window into the kitchen so you can see the pizza coming out fresh. It is a bit more upscale and perfect for date night or lunch with friends. This pizza has a deliciously soft and salty crust, and somehow they get it thinner in the center than any other Neapolitan pizza we’ve had! Our favorite is the traditional Margherita with buffalo mozzarella. Be sure to check out their homemade pastries for dessert (hi, almond pound cake and cannolis).
