Your Guide to the Best Tacos in Denver

10. Tacos Jalisco

Tacos Jalisco serves up some of the best tacos in Denver and is the perfect choice for a low-key lunch or dinner. They’ve got a pretty large menu, but we recommend going straight for the tacos. Order them street stylewith onions and cilantro on a soft tortillaand get four of the same taco, or go with a crunchy tortilla so you can mix it up and order a few different meat options. Either way, your meal is going to be delicious. The tacos pair really well with the salsa trio that’s placed on your table upon arrival (accompanied by tortilla chips)—bringing just enough heat and a little kick of flavor.

9. Tacos Tequila Whiskey

We couldn’t make a guide covering the 10 best tacos in Denver without including Tacos Tequila Whiskey. With three different locations to choose from in the city, an award-winning taco menu with over 15 varieties (four of them are vegetarian!), killer happy hour deals, and churros for dessert, it’s safe to say we love this place! Two Female Foodie favorites are the Queso a la Plancha made with griddled cotija cheese, avocado, roasted tomatillo salsa, and lime (simple but sooo good), and the Pork Carnitas with mouthwatering crispy roasted pork, pickled red onions, and avocado crema. If you’re feeling more adventurous, you’ve got to try the Lengua, made from triple-cooked Colorado beef tongue.

8. La Mexicana Taqueria at Highlands

Welcome to La Mexicana Taqueria, a cute, colorful cantina serving up some of the very best tacos in Denver. Seat yourself upon arrival, order some tacos, then watch as your meal is made in an open kitchen right before your eyes. To make things easy, La Mexicana Taqueria gives you the option of ordering either two or four tacos with two different meat options. You can’t go wrong with the Choriqueso, but we also love the Al Carbón steak taco that features nice, giant slices of onion and avocado on top. La Mexicana Taqueria is a great place to head when y0u’re looking to escape the often over-crowded restaurants in the Highlands neighborhood.

7. Uno Mas Taqueria y Cantina

Good luck trying to eat a taco from Uno Mas Taqueria without getting a little messy—the tacos here are heavy laden with delicious meats and veggies and we thank them for it. If you can swing it, we recommend heading to Uno Mas Taqueria on a Tuesday for happy hour (3-7 p.m.) to indulge in any taco on their menu for just $3! We’re quite frankly obsessed with the Barbacoa, Al Pastor (OMG, that pineapple-marinated pork!), and Frijoles tacos, which also happen to be their most popular tacos. Pro Tip: if you want to make your tacos a little more manageable to eat, you can order a side of three organic white corn tortillas for just 75 cents and all of a sudden your three mega tacos are six baby tacos. Locally sourced produce and meats, great quality, and friendly service make Uno Mas Taqueria an easy choice to include on our guide to the best tacos in Denver.

6. El Taco De Mexico

El Taco de Mexico, a family-owned taco shop built in 1985, is a no-frills, diner-style spot located in the Santa Fe Arts District of Denver. With just a few stools lining the front counter and a couple of booths, you’ll want to show up early and plan to wait for a seat, especially during their lunch rush. El Taco de Mexico’s menu is displayed above the counter, and it’s pretty simple and straightforward. We advise first-timers to order their Three Taco Plate with beef steak.

It comes with rice and beans (yay!) and the tacos are authentic, insanely delicious, and simple with just salsa, onions, and cilantro. This unassuming taco joint is a perfect addition to our best tacos in Denver guide!

For a more upscale taco dining experience, we recommend heading straight to Leña on South Broadway. Here are some things you need to know about this spot before you go: the dinner menu features only one taco at a time, the tacos come three to a plate, the flavors are rotated out seasonally, and they are no doubt some of the best tacos in Denver. Both the Pork Carnitas and the Tuna Tataki—made with seared tuna, in-house taco seasoning, housemade blue corn tortillas, and scallion relish—are absolutely to die for and confirm that a taco order from Leña means unforgettable and unmatched flavors.

4. Adelitas Cocina y Cantina

A terrific spot for any occasion, Adelitas Cocina y Cantina has a very solid menu filled with tried-and-true taco classics, a great vegetarian section, and $1 tacos on Taco Tuesday! We appreciate Adelitas’ straightforward, traditional Mexican flavors and the fact that you are able to mix and match instead of having to stick with just one meat choice for your tacos. Piled high with toppings, the tacos from Adelitas are hearty, full of flavor, and some of the best tacos in Denver.

3. Comida

Great news! Comida has found a home inside Stanley Marketplace (previously located inside Source Marketplace) and it’s a standout even compared to all the other great restaurants nestled in this bustling food hall. At Comida, you’ll find a highly inventive taco menu with ingredients like pork shoulder slow-cooked in Stella Artois, smoked gouda sweet potato mash, chile-roasted beets and carrots, dried cranberries, toasted pepitas, and cauliflower thyme mash. Did we just blow your mind? Trust us here, these ingredients work together in an incredible way.

Comida’s tacos are a la carte on the menu, so take your girlfriends and order a bunch to try!

2. Kachina Cantina

We’ve got three very important words for you: fry bread tacos!  When you eat at Kachina Cantina, you absolutely have to order their taco plate and upgrade to Navajo-style so your tacos come on fry bread instead of tortillas (though the tortillas are good too and made in-house). We didn’t think tacos could get any better, but Kachina Cantina went and proved us wrong. Their entire menu draws inspiration from the Four Corners region of the Southwest as well as Baja Mexico, which sets them apart in a big way. We highly recommend the Roasted Chicken, Wagyu Brisket, and Wagyu Carne Asada tacos paired with one of their four agua frescas. The chips and the salsa (especially the salsa verde) are also not to be missedboth a little more peppery than you might be used to, but we know you’re going to love them.

1. El Camino Community Tavern

Our number one pick for the best tacos in Denver is El Camino Community Tavern. What do we love about El Camino? For starters, they’ve got a well-rounded, seasonal menu with plenty of options to suit all dietary needs, which is something we really appreciate when we want to dine with a group. They’ve got an awesome Taco Tuesday menu on which tacos are served all day long at just $1. And most importantly, the tacos are downright delicious. While our favorites are the Carne Asada tacos (the corn and crispy tortilla strips really seal the deal here), we also love the Camarones, Al Pastor, and Cauliflower tacos. Really, any taco you order at El Camino is going to change your life. FYI: taco plates at El Camino come with four of the same taco, so we recommend going with family, friends, or on a double date and ordering to share so you can each try a few varieties. Incredibly tasty tacos made with fresh, quality ingredients make El Camino our top choice for tacos in Denver!
