Umami Burger may be commercialized now, but it became one of the most popular burger joints for good reason. Umami Burger is fresh, consistent, inventive and everything just works well together. Umami Burger is still one of my favorite places in Los Angeles to get a good burger and fries. Service is consistently good, especially at this hipster location. Also, they always are looking for new inventive burgers and collaborating with some of the best chefs from all over the country.
Every month or so you will see a special limited-time-only burger they are trying out with customers that dare. If it does well, they add it to the menu or bring it back in the future. Umami Burger also keeps up on recent events and foodie holidays. For instance, May 28th is National Burger Day, so if you buy a burger on that day you will get a voucher for a free burger during June as well as an opportunity to donate to Meals On Wheels. Umami Burger is constantly looking for ways to improve and connect with the local community.
I usually get the original Umami Burger (parmesan frico, shiitake mushroom, roasted tomato, caramelized onions, and Umami ketchup), some parmesan garlic fries with their special truffle ketchup, and a dessert since they partner with some of the best local dessert shops in the area (I love Coolhaus’ ice cream cookie sandwiches). They also have a full bar with great craft beers and wine, so look out for their Whiskey flights or other delicious special cocktails.
Umami Burger also likes to make sure there is a burger for everyone, so they have vegetarian, turkey and other options for patties, as well as side salads in case you want to feel a little less guilty about your meal. Other popular burgers are the Manly (house beer-cheddar cheese, bacon lardons, smoked-salt onion strings, Umami ketchup, and mustard) or the simple Truffle Burger (truffled aioli, house truffle cheese, and truffle glaze). You really can’t go wrong here – perfect place for your cheat day!
