There is nothing better than eating your weight in free chips with fresh, house-made salsa. It is the cheapest type of therapy, and the therapist is called Chuy’s. (Pronounced Chew-ees.) This Austin original is a perennial favorite and serves up bright and flavorful Tex-Mex 7 days a week.
Chuy’s has a fun and family friendly environment. There is all manner of quirky decor including a ceiling full of recycled hubcaps, pictures of Elvis Presley and fun T-shirts for sale with Tex-Mex puns.
My absolute favorite is their taco salad with chicken fajita meat. The chicken is tender and perfectly seasoned and I always add their delicious guacamole, which is also made in-house. Chiles rellenos (depicted in the featured image up top) is another delicious dish that features deep fried Anaheim peppers stuffed to bursting with ground sirloin and cheese. Lastly, no trip to Chuy’s is complete without their tres leches cake. Traditional tres leches cake is made with evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk and regular milk, hence the name three milks cake. If you come to Austin, this restaurant is a must!
