Everybody loves a burger. Whether its price is on the high or low end, stacked with toppings or simple, meaty or veg-friendly, it’s hard to define what makes a perfect burger, but we’d say these top 12 favorite burgers in Denver are some of the best burgers out there. Denver is chock full of choices when it comes to burgers (some even claim that the cheeseburger originated in Colorado!), but trust our guide to the most essential burgers in Denver for when you’re craving a good burger and don’t know where to start.

12. Officer’s Club
Officer’s Club is housed in the market-style retail/ restaurant space Hangar 2 in the Lowry neighborhood. With plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, Officer’s Club is a great place for a laid-back date night. The menu focuses on mid-century American fare and features only one burger – the General’s bacon burger- which comes with double patties, double cheese, Lowry secret sauce, LTPO, and shoestring fries. This burger is definitely worthy of ordering over anything else on the menu. Voted best burger by 5280, one bite in and you’ll see why. We won’t judge if you take out a patty to make it slightly easier to eat, but we also won’t judge if you stick with both patties and polish off the whole burger in a messy, happy delight.

11. My Brother’s Bar
My Brother’s Bar is a Denver OG (the oldest bar in town, in fact) and has stood the test of time for a reason. Whether you live in Denver or are just visiting, a visit to this historical Denver spot at least once is a must, and while you’re there, you’re gonna need a burger. We highly recommend the Ralphie bison burger garnished with the toppings of your choice. Revel in the glory that is the condiment caddy every burger is served with – bowls filled with sliced onions, banana peppers, relish, pickles, and bottles of ketchup and mustard. An old-school burger in its finest form.

10. A5
Switching gears to a bit of a higher price point, A5 is primarily a steakhouse, and naturally, they would have a killer burger on their bar menu. Our favorite time to visit is during happy hour when you can get a great deal on the burger + fries on the side. Made with a 6 oz wagyu beef patty and topped with butterkasse cheese, griddled onions, pickles, and special sauce, this burger is classic and perfect for any night a craving sets in. Simple yet filling, this burger easily earns A5 its spot on our guide to the best burgers in Denver.

9. Cherry Cricket
Cherry Cricket is yet another Denver OG (it’s been around since 1945!) – Denver has taken its burgers seriously for years, clearly. Their original location in Cherry Creek plus a newer location in Ballpark both offer a burger menu with 21+ toppings to choose from, which means endless combinations – come prepared to get creative. Our personal favorite is the 720 Jammin’ Poblano (the Burger Battle winner of 2021) – a half-pound burger topped with pimento cheese, crispy panko-coated poblano pepper, pork belly, and cherry pepper raspberry sauce. It’s easily a favorite when you’re after one of the best burgers in Denver.

8. Knockabout Burgers
Avanti Food Hall welcomed Knockabout Burgers to their lineup in the summer of 2020, and we’re so happy they made it through the pandemic and are still producing bangin’ burgers. They’ve got a super solid lineup of some of the best burgers in Denver on their menu with options for both meat and vegetarian burger lovers alike. All burgers come with a side of fries (honestly should be a requirement), and if you’re feeling a little extra you can upgrade your fries to garlic parmesan which is never a bad call.

7. Brasserie Brixton
Tucked away in the Cole neighborhood of Denver, Brasserie Brixton low-key has NYC street cafe vibes that can be hard to find in Denver, and we are in love. The focus here is unpretentious and fun French cuisine, so you know you’re in for a treat with anything on the menu, but the burger is a must. This meaty boy is on the simpler side (double patties, cheese, lettuce), but anything else would simply be clutter to an almost-perfect burger. If you somehow manage to still have any room left after downing this tasty burg, we highly recommend finishing it off with their ricotta donuts topped with a hot toddy glaze. You’re welcome in advance.

6. Death & Co
Located inside the aesthetically beautiful Ramble hotel, we love Death & Co for a meal at any hour of the day, whether it’s for a morning breakfast burrito or classy evening fare. Our favorite reason to come here after 3 pm is the burger which features River Bear beef topped with cheddar mornay, tomato aioli, and frisée all served on a brioche bun. This burger is pleasantly light and the cheddar mornay + tomato aioli flavor combination is unexpectedly delightful and not overbearing, making for one of the best burgers in Denver.

5. Park Burger
While we love a fancy burger, you don’t have to go all out to get one of the best burgers in Denver. Sometimes you want a casual spot with something for everyone, and Park Burger is exactly that place. And with four locations around Denver, you’re covered no matter where you’re at. Park Burger’s menu features chef-inspired burgers and has the classics covered plus a handful of specialty burgers like The Fun Guy, The Scarpone, or The Birria Burger. The Getting Figgy Wit It burger is a unique favorite – a 1/3 lb patty, fig jam, brie, bacon, rosemary, and arugula- so fresh and so good. Park Burger doesn’t stop at burgers – they’ve got a killer lineup of fries and an assortment of shakes for a sweet finish. Truly a spot not to be missed.

4. Split Lip
Split Lip is a relative newcomer to the Denver food scene but is a must-visit when a burger is what you’re craving. Located inside Number 38, a sprawling taproom in RiNo with a huge outdoor patio that feels amaaaazing in the summertime, they’ve got a short but sweet menu featuring four regional burgers. Our top pic is the Oklahoma fried onion burger. Decked out with French onion mayo, Swiss cheese, and “too many pickles”, it’s got a distinct umami flavor that we keep coming back for.

3. Misfit Snack Bar
Another newbie to the Denver food scene is Misfit Snack Bar, located inside the Middleman Bar. Take a seat inside this dark and cozy bar to experience one of the best burgers in Denver. Aptly named “My F***ing Burger” and described as “the beginning of a beautiful friendship,” their signature burger comes with two patties, doubled up with plenty of cheese, pickles, and sauce and is served with a generous helping of thick-cut waffles fries + homemade dipping sauce. We are truly amazed by this burger and are so happy to have the Misfit crew around.

2. Tessa Delicatessen
When you’re thinking about where to get a great burger, a deli might not be your first thought, but hear us out. Located a bit out of the way on East Colfax, Tessa is worth the trek no matter the time of day (they also have one of the best breakfast burritos in town), but we love to visit for lunch or supper. While their daytime menu features an impressive array of both hot and cold sandwiches, the burger is what you’re here for. Choose from a single, double, or bacon cheeseburger (always, always go with bacon) and snag a deli salad or bag of Boulder chips to round things out. We love a good smash burger, but sometimes you just need a nice thick, juicy patty in all its towering glory – this is that burger, and it’s absolutely one of the best burgers in Denver.

1. Woodie Fisher
Named after one of the first fire chiefs in Denver, Woodie Fisher, this old firehouse turned restaurant in LoDo is not only one of our favorite restaurants in the city but is also home to one of the best burgers in Denver as well. Reservations are recommended, but if you can get there early enough (they open at 4 pm), there’s a good chance you’ll find a table. We have so many favorites on the menu, but let’s talk about this burger. There’s only one signature burger on Woodie Fisher’s menu – no options for customization – don’t worry, you won’t need it, it’s going to be amazing as is. This burger comes with havarti cheese, smoked bacon, crispy onions, worcestershire aioli, relish, and a side of delightfully crispy shoestring fries, a combination we find highly satisfying.
