Summer time in Houston means, Astros games, hot dogs and heat! On the way to the games we typically like to stop and grab a dog, fries and a beer before heading to the ballpark. These hot dogs are not your typical dogs, they are the really good, get your hands dirty, wait to wipe your face kind of hot dog!
One of my favorite things about Good Dog is everything comes locally sourced and served with in-house, made from scratch condiments. I have tried many items on their menu and I consistently return to the Chillin’ Dog. Served on a soft and buttery Slow Dough Bread Co. bun and topped with beef & chorizo chili, pickled jalapeños, diced onions and short bus mustard. MMMmmm it’s a good dog! Don’t forget to order a side of fresh cut fries and sriracha ketchup.
Besides the dogs, another aspect I love about Good Dog is their craft beer options. Their selection is constantly rotating with local brews and for a beer lover like myself, I never know what to choose. It’s a good thing they are willing to let you taste just about anything. I got the Payload Pilsner from B-52 Brewery (Conroe, Texas) this time. However, I have returned since this photo and they have rotated in new/seasonal beers.
The menu has a type of hot dog for everyone (at least 14). The ingredients are paired perfectly and are colorful combinations that burst in your mouth. If you are not a hot dog fan, they have plenty of other items on their menu such as gulf fish and chips and variety of salads and sandwiches. Don’t forget the milkshakes!
The staff is friendly, their food is consistent and the beer is cold. I consider myself lucky to have this local gem in my neighborhood. They also have a happy hour Tuesday-Friday. Couple $2 local beers and short bus shorties for $4, which allows you to experiment with all the hot dogs. They are also adding a second location in Montrose, coming soon!
