I mean, you already know what you’re going to order. Even though you’re sure the restaurant has a plethora of tasty dishes, you can’t get your mind off that old favorite. That’s what it’s like for me and the Mì Xào Dòn or “Spicy Egg Noodle” at Hue Vietnamese Restaurant. It’s a cozy spot in Bay View that I’ve been known to frequent over the past few years. Although I’ve tried various other heavenly offerings that are listed on their menu, I keep coming back to my beloved crispy egg noodles topped with stir fried veggies.

Add chicken, beef, shrimp, or tofu and it’s an instant classic. My mouth waters just thinking about it!

By the time the sauce of the veggies sink into the noodles, they are just soft enough with just a little necessary bit of crunch. This time I was in the mood for chicken as my protein, but I choose shrimp just as often. This is a powerfully flavorful and fresh stir fry dish, and definitely my go-to.

The other dish we ordered was the Phở Tái Chín, Bò Vien or “Beef and Meatball Phở.” This traditional noodle soup had sirloin steak, well done brisket, and beef meatballs in Hue’s homemade beef broth with rice noodles.

In a little bowl on the side are the Vietnamese herbs – bean sprouts, Thai basil, jalapeño, and lime. On a cold winter’s day this will be sure to warm you up. The different types of meat provided a complex combination of flavors that was accentuated by a punch from the jalapeño and lime. As a side note, although we didn’t order them during this particular visit, the spicy crab rangoons are another stellar choice of an appetizer on Hue’s menu!

You can just tell with every bite that what you’re eating is made with quality ingredients, not to mention that Hue prepares them in the traditional way with a modern twist. If you order the Spicy Egg Noodles, let me know what you think!
