Purgatory is a bar in Salt Lake City that serves dinner six days a week (Tuesday-Sunday) and brunch on the weekends. Their late night hours go until midnight Tuesday-Thursday, 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 11 p.m. on Sunday. When you visit, order the Purgs Burgs, a 1/4 lb. burger with cheddar, lettuce, grilled onions, mustard, and aioli, or their Spicy Chicken Sando, made with a King’s Hawaiian bun, fried chicken, spicy buffalo sauce, fresh lettuce, and kewpie. Both options come with pickles and fries on the side and are sure to cure your late night cravings.

13. The Dodo

The Dodo is one of the very best places for a late night snack in Salt Lake City, and is open until 11 p.m. every night, except for Sunday when they close at 10 p.m. Savory menu faves include their Dirty Bird Salad (on their secret menu), beef stroganoff, and smoked turkey sandwich, while our favorite sweets (The Dodo is THE place for late night dessert in SLC) include their tollhouse pie, coffee cake with caramel sauce, and banana cream cheese pie.

12. Garage on Beck

Garage on Beck is an auto repair shop that was transformed into a bar on Salt Lake City’s Beck Street. They serve indulgent, fun comfort foods like fried Mormon funeral potatoes, bacon candy, chicken and waffles, and (our personal favorite) an unforgettable cowboy burger that’s topped with a golden-crisp onion ring, bacon, cheddar cheese, leaf lettuce, tomato, BBQ sauce, and mayo. Garage on Beck is open until 9 p.m. on weekdays and 10 p.m. on weekends, making it the perfect spot to snack after dark.

11. Avenues Proper

Open until 10 p.m. on weekends, Avenues Proper is one of the best late night restaurants in Salt Lake City. Go to this industrial-chic space in the Avenues neighborhood late at night with a group of friends and order various small plates to share. The best thing on the menu is the Kung Pao Cauliflower—tempura-battered cauliflower topped with peanuts, roasted Thai chili, celery, radishes, and green onions. We also highly recommend the Roasted Beet Salad which is laid on top of whipped goat cheese and topped with an apple-walnut vinaigrette and house granola.

10. Proper Burger

From the same creators of Avenues Proper, Proper Burger serves one of our favorite burgers in town. This fast-casual eatery located on Main Street in Salt Lake City is a quick and easy spot to stop for a late night bite (they’re open until 10 p.m. every day). We love the Proper Style burger built with caramelized onion, American cheese, zucchini pickles, lettuce, tomato, and Proper sauce. Don’t forget to grab a side of hand-cut fries and some of their chocolate soft serve as well—they’re to die for!

9. The Rest

Our guide to the best late night restaurants in Salt Lake City wouldn’t be complete without The Rest, a subterranean speakeasy set beneath the Bodega tavern. With a low-lit atmosphere and hunting-lodge decor, The Rest offers a one-of-a-kind experience to all who visit (open until 11 p.m., Tuesday-Saturday). The Charcuterie board is the star of the show here. Enjoy apple-walnut smoked cheddar, Cypress Farms goat cheese, Point Reyes Original blue cheese, Austrian salami, speck, apple jam, grained mustard, seasonal pickles, and sourdough bread, all artfully arranged on a serving board. Everything is fresh, flavorful, and versatile, to satisfy many different palates. We also recommend the French Onion Brisket Sliders, served with gruyere, caramelized onion, garlic aioli, and seasonal pickles. 8. Eva

Eva is one of the OG spots for great late night dining in Salt Lake City. Situated in the hustle and bustle of Main Street in downtown Salt Lake City, this local mainstay serves comforting New American favorites like sautéed brussels sprouts, grilled asparagus, their Fig & Pig Pizza, and their spinach and potato gnocchi made with a white wine cream sauce, peas, mushroom, parmesan, and truffle oil. Get your name on their list if it’s a weekend and enjoy walking around downtown while you’re waiting for a table. Eva is open until 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

7. East Liberty Tap House

Located by the Danish-influenced hangout of 9th and 9th, East Liberty Tap House is one of the best late night restaurants in Salt Lake City. This modern and casual bar takes classic pub fare to a new and refined level. Whether you’re looking for a late night snack or an evening entree, you’ll find something for everyone that’s high quality and locally sourced. They’re open until 10 p.m. Sunday-Wednesday, and until 11 p.m. Thursday-Saturday. We recommend digging into their chorizo fries, housemade fries topped with queso, pickled jalapeños, lime cream, black bean puree, and cotija. 6. Whiskey Street Cocktails & Dining

Whiskey Street is a vintage-chic bar on Main Street (don’t forget your ID) with unique lounge booths, American bites, and is no doubt one of the best late night restaurants in Salt Lake City. We recommend their brunch menu as well as their late night eats menu. The Whiskey Burger is phenomenal, with certified Angus beef, smoked cheddar, caramelized onions, tomato, ancho chile aioli, arugula, and Whiskey Street BBQ sauce. A close second is their NY Steak Salad which has a pepper-crusted flank on top of mixed greens, red onion, tomato gorgonzola, and a roasted garlic grilled baguette. If you’re out late and need to curb that hunger, make this your next stop for a late night bite. The kitchen at Whiskey Street is open until 11:45 p.m. every night.

5. The Bayou

The Bayou is our next stop for the best late night restaurants in Salt Lake City, a unique bar (don’t forget your ID) with a New Orleans feel that offers Cajun-inspired grub. Start with the Gumbolaya, a flavorful mix of gumbo and jambalaya. You can order the original Gumbolaya with chicken and sausage, or add even more authenticity with shrimp or crawfish. Either way, it’s a winner. For an entree, choose the Bayou Fish Plate with fried catfish, steamed veggies, and their famous 50/50 fries (half white potato half sweet potato). 4. Yoko Ramen

Yoko Ramen is our favorite spot for great ramen in Salt Lake City, and lucky for you, they’re open until 10 p.m. every Friday and Saturday. Our favorite bowl of ramen here is the pork ramen, made with tonkatsu-shoyu (pork broth) and chashu (Japanese pork belly). The flavor is the perfect combination of umami, salty, and rich, and will have you planning your next trip back before you finish slurping your noodles. Hungry for more? 3. Lucky 13

Lucky 13 is not only one of the best late night restaurants in SLC, but they serve some of the best burgers in town. Currently open until 10 p.m. 7 nights a week, Lucky 13 serves over a dozen deluxe burgers from garlic burgers (the Breath Enhancer) to peanut butter burgers (the Nut Butter burger) to a 12-inch tall burger (the Big Benny). Our favorite is the Celestial Burger, made with house-smoked bacon, grilled onions, cheddar cheese, and house-made barbecue sauce. Lucky 13 serves 21 and older diners only, so don’t forget your ID.

2. White Horse Spirits & Kitchen

White Horse Spirits & Kitchen is one of the very best late night restaurants in Salt Lake City. As a relaxed and locally sourced establishment, White Horse serves memorable food that you will write home about. Our favorite dish here is the duck breast, which is served with roasted potatoes, Utah sour cherries, port wine brute rogue, and crispy brussels sprouts. It’s a warm and salty dish that is balanced nicely with the sweetness of the cherries and wine. We also love the vegetable hash, steak tartare, and spaghetti and clams. Truly, all of the entrees and appetizers are incredible. You won’t be disappointed here, as long as you bring a valid ID. They’re open until 1 a.m. every evening, so you can enjoy their food late into your night.

1. Lola

Recently transplanted from Utah County, Lola serves absolutely incredible upscale Mexican food in the 9th and 9th neighborhood of Salt Lake City. Lola is open until 10 p.m. Monday-Thursday, and until 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and the menu items here are bursting with flavor and texture.
