Maybe Livingston, Montana isn’t on your must-visit list yet, but this tiny town (population 7,784) has plenty of fun and good food waiting for you. Though the restaurant offerings are limited in this quaint railroad and ranching hub, we’re happy to report five establishments that we wholeheartedly recommend. From burgers to beef stroganoff, to chicken pot pie, there’s a little something for everyone in our guide to the best Livingston restaurants.

4. Gil’s Goods
Gil’s Goods is a wonderful constant among the Livingston restaurant scene. You can always count on good food here whether it’s one of their wood-fired pizzas (pepperoni is our favorite), a bistro sandwich, or the Gil’s Famous Burger—a half-pound patty ground in-house using Montana Certified Angus Beef. Get it Big Jim Chili-style if you think you’d be into roasted hatch chilis, cheddar cheese, and aioli on your burger. Oh, and don’t skip the fries.

3. Pinky’s Cafe
Pinky’s Cafe is a local favorite and it’s one of our favorite Livingston restaurants as well. You’re here for a great breakfast (served all day) or lunch, all made from scratch. The menus are currently rotating, but our top menu favorite is the West Coast Eggs Benedict made with bacon, tomato, avocado, poached egg, and fresh hollandaise sauce. Trust us when we say you’ll be licking your plate clean.

2. Faye’s Cafe
Not to be missed, our favorite Livingston restaurant for breakfast is Faye’s Cafe, situated in the Shane Lalani Center for the Arts on Lewis Street. The menu here is coined as “fun fusion food”, which perfectly describes the eclectic menu offerings in Chef Sarah Faye’s restaurant. Order eggs benedict, huevos rancheros, waffles, or biscuits and gravy and feel free to add any modifications or requests from “healthy and vegan” to “meaty and cheesy” and Chef Sarah will accommodate your mood and taste. If you’re adventurous, ask for the Chef’s Creation and find yourself pleasantly surprised with something you may not typically order.

1. 2nd Street Bistro
2nd Street Bistro, located in the Historic Murray Hotel, is one of the best Livingston restaurants for a nice evening out. The cuisine here is French, and the restaurant strives to make as many menu items as possible with locally sourced meat and produce. Here you’ll find a variety of small plates, soups, salads, pastas, and entrees to choose from but the best menu item (in our humble opinion) is the beef stroganoff. Picture slow-cooked sirloin, onions, mushrooms, a veal demi-glace, sour cream, and a pinch of paprika, all served over hand-torn pasta.
It’s truly incredible and one of our very favorite Montana meals.
