If you’re looking for a quiet spot to have a giant slice of pizza during your lunch hour, Classic Slice is the place to go. Actually, they’re usually open until 10pm or midnight, but I happened to join the business crowd the other day when I stopped by. But from what I’ve noticed, Classic Slice is popular with just about everyone. If you ask many Milwaukeeans where they go for their favorite pizza, this place will rank in their top three.
Although you can certainly order a whole pizza, I opted for just a slice. I was in the mood for something that wasn’t your typical cheese pizza. I wanted the La Dolce, one of their specialty slices. It reminded me of a Margherita pizza straight out of Italy with the fresh mozzarella, basil, garlic, and tomato.
I also got to try half of my mom’s spicy meatball sandwich. It’s made with their house-made meatballs, shredded mozzarella, roasted red peppers, gardinera peppers, spinach, red sauce, and Italian herbs on their freshly baked ciabatta. I liked how their “meatballs” were pretty flat instead of in balls because it prevented them from rolling out of the other side of my sandwich after taking a bite (which has actually happened to me…right onto the floor). They were also very flavorful and paired well with the spicy peppers.
On top of their perfect ciabatta bread, we have one heck of a sandwich.
I’d recommend Classic Slice for their large variety of pizza and their ability to cater to those with different dietary needs (vegan, gluten-free, etc.), but I have to mention their Bay View location’s super chill atmosphere. Whether you choose to sit by the window or at one of their huge community tables, you’ll surely enjoy a low-key meal with a creatively named slice of pizza.
