Top 10 Places to Eat Pastel de Natas in London

Pastel de natas are the creamy, custardy, caramelised tarts that I started an obsession with when a friend bought me one at a Portuguese restaurant called Nandos. This was the only place I’d seen them until I moved to London and found so many places doing their own take on them. I’ve gathered what are my top 10 places to eat pastel de natas in London. Lisboa Patisserie, Notting Hill. (57 Golborne Rd, London W10 5NR // 020 8968 5242)
For the weekend wanderer.

A no fuss, no frills portuguese cafe near Portobello, Notting Hill . Rough around the edges and famous for their glossy, caramelised custard tarts. Expect a long queue that goes down really fast and table seats that turn around quickly. Take a de-tour here if your around Portobello Market.

Galeta, South Bank Market. (Sutton Walk, Lambeth, London SE1 8XX // 020 7960 4200)
For the adventurous.

You can’t miss them in Southbank Food Market, just up from the London eye, with their piles of cookies and rows of nata. Try the raspberry or blueberry one. The whole sharp fruity thing together with the rich custard. Wow. Mind blown. It’s also 4 for £5, and who ever just eats one…

Fortnum and Mason. (181 Piccadilly, London W1A 1ER // 020 7734 8040)
For the posh people.

Fortnum and Mason seem to have their own version of a nata. Stickier and more caramelised than you average. I suppose they can bend the nata rules if they want, their Fortnum and Mason’s after all. Find them on the same floor as the beef wellingtons, caviar and bottles of champagne. Told you it was for posh people

Sweet Brigadeiro, Camden Market. (Unit 215 – 216, Chalk Farm Road, London NW1 8AB// 020 7485 7963)
For the cool kids. 

In the East Yard of Camden Markets amazing food stalls, this cute little stand sells chocolate truffles too as well as nata. Get something savoury first at another stall and end up here for dessert. Ask for a napkin their SERIOUSLY flaky (in a good way).

Harrods, Knightsbridge. (87-135 Brompton Rd, London SW1X 7XL// 020 7730 1234)
For the ones who want to say I’ve eaten in Harrods.

If your in Harrods and looking at the designer handbags, 50 inch tv’s and four poster beds for your pet I commend you. Me? I look at the pastry as it’s usually the only thing I can afford. To be honest, I am very okay about that, especially if it means I get to buy one of their pastel de nata. I can now say I’ve eaten in Harrods. Life goal achieved.

For those around South London.

Authentic Portuguese tarts by authentic Portuguese people. They have a deli, cafe and a restaurant with a range of meats, seafood and more sweet treats. They do mini nata too! I’ve read they supply to the likes of Nandos and you can’t get more Portuguese then Nandos right? Peri Peri chicken anyone?
