Pip's Original Doughnuts & Chai in Portland, Oregon | femalefoodie.comPip's Original Doughnuts & Chai in Portland, Oregon | femalefoodie.comHello and welcome to a post about my absolute *new* favorite place for doughnuts in Portland, Oregon- Pip’s Original Doughnuts & Chai. If you’re local and reading this, you and I both know that this is old news. Or at least 3 year-old news. Newly opened in 2013, owners Nathan and Jamie Snell desired to “bring back the mom and pop doughnut shop” and thereafter created a delicious, made-to-order doughnut experience that is unlike any other in PDX.

And if you aren’t a local? Well- you’ve probably been told by friends and family back home to try Voodoo Doughnut (nothing wrong with Voodoo- it has its time and place… more on this topic soon) at least a dozen times. But for crying out loud had I have known how incredible Pip’s was from day one I’d have stopped in at least a time or two more during our most recent trip to Portland.

I was at a complete loss for what I wanted (typical), and let the gentleman working at the counter take over. He recommend The Dirty Wu (cinnamon sugar drizzled with raw honey, warm nutella, and dusted with sea salt), cinnamon & sugar, and a seasonal doughnut topped with bacon and powdered sugar. Something I really appreciated about Pip’s was how willing they were to customize order- I almost assumed that the mini doughnuts would have to be ordered in bulk, but to my delight we were able to try a little of everything.

My husband and I shared a plate that was consumed in less than 3 minutes. And that’s being generous. We were swooning over how perfect these mini doughnuts were and literally savored every last crumb. Pip’s Original Doughnuts & Chai also serves a variety of house-crafted chai blends (thus the name) for the ultimate breakfast duo.

Bottom line: if you have one chance to enjoy doughnuts in Portland on your next trip to the Pacific Northwest, pencil in a stop to Pip’s Original Doughnuts & Chai for mouth-watering delicious, inexpensive, and MADE TO ORDER FRESH DOUGHNUTS. It simply doesn’t get better than that, my friends.
