Tomato Days: 5 SLC Tomato Dishes You MUST Try This Summer

This post is sponsored. Thank you for supporting my work with brands and businesses that I love! All opinions are my own.

I love tomatoes. Ever since I was a young girl I have had deep love for fresh, juicy, homegrown tomatoes. My dad nicknamed me “Brookie Tomato” and the nickname still lives on. As you can imagine, I was beyond thrilled to learn that every year in Salt Lake City there is a “Tomato Days” dine around. Participating restaurants share tomato-themed menu items to support local Wasatch Community Gardens, who will receive a portion of the proceeds.

This year five local restaurants are participating in Tomato Days. Last year I absolutely loved going around town trying all of the dishes! This post features each of these local dishes that will be available from August 15- September 15th, 2017. Let me know what your favorite Tomato Days dishes are!

5. Three Cups: Caprese Toast

Don’t underestimate the power of combining tomato and basil. Our friends at 3 Cups have hit a home run with such a simple dish by dressing up juicy homegrown tomatoes with fresh basil, sweet reduction of balsamic, and a burrata spread. I literally could have eaten ten of these toasts in one sitting. 3 Cups (4670 S Holladay Village Plaza #104, Holladay, UT // 385.237.3091)

4. Tin Angel Cafe: Tomato & Cheese Bake with Crostinis

This year for Tomato Days the Tin Angel Cafe is preparing a dish that will make your tomato-loving-heart sing. Picture heirloom tomatoes baked atop a blend of chevre and ricotta cheeses with basil, thyme, lemon juice, pine nuts, and extra virgin olive oil; served with crostinis. Come to mama. 3. Les Madeleines: Caprese Sandwich

Pictured above is the Les Madeleines Tomato Days menu item from 2016, a classic BLT with heirloom tomatoes. This year they’ll be featuring a caprese sandwich with local heirloom tomatoes from LC Organics in West Valley City, with fresh mozzarella and house grown basil on a house made French country loaf. Les Madeleines (216 East 500 South, Salt Lake City, UT // 801.355.2294)

2. Laziz Kitchen: Egg & Tomato Skillet

If you haven’t been to Laziz Kitchen for their delicious Lebanese menu items then now is definitely the time! Laziz is serving a base layer of beef steak tomatoes, buttered in a cast iron pan with three eggs, topped with a sumac onion mix, a sprinkle of cherry tomatoes, Zaatar, and another slice of a large tomato; baked in a stone fired oven. 1. Even Stevens: PBLT

Our number one pick for 2017 Tomato Days dishes in Salt Lake City is unquestionably the PBLT from our favorite Even Stevens Sandwiches. This delicious spin on a classic BLT has house braised pork belly, heirloom tomato relish, arugula, and garlic aioli served on a toasted baguette. I can say firsthand that once you try the PBLT it won’t be your last! The Even Stevens PBLT is available at their Salt Lake City, Sugar House, Draper, St. George, Ogden, Logan, and Provo locations.
