Hiking and camping for a few days makes you ridiculously hungry. Trust me. When you wake up and eat a meager breakfast of pop tarts and a few potatoes and then go on a three hour hike in the middle of the desert, the thing you crave the most is a big, juicy burger, and you’re probably willing to go to any lengths to get it. That’s what happened a few weekends ago when my husband and I traveled down to hike Calf Creek Falls near Boulder, UT. We decided to drive north and eat in Torrey, UT on our way home and I’m so glad we did, because that’s when we stumbled across Slacker’s Burger Joint.
Slacker’s is a little drive-in burger place right outside Capitol Reef National Park. They have an extensive menu and everything is made when you order it, so while it can take a few minutes to get your food, it’s definitely worth the wait. We were starving so we ordered a couple shakes to hold us over until we got our meals, and honestly, they were some of the best we’ve had. I got the grasshopper and my husband got Reese’s and we inhaled them in no time.
When our burgers arrived it was all we could do to wait long enough to take a couple pictures before we dug in. The patties were thick, juicy, and the toppings were fresh and flavorful. I had ordered a classic hamburger and fries and they definitely did it right.
My husband got a bacon cheeseburger and sweet potato fries and they were equally as delicious. The fries were crispy, the bacon the same, and everything hit the spot. We’ll be going back for sure when we make a trip down to Capitol Reef NP later this summer – hope to see you there!
