Daisuke Matsumoto operates a pizzeria in Vancouver (just across the bridge) that serves not only some of the best pizza in Portland but the best authentic Neapolitan pie in town. Situated inside their new brick and mortar on 164th Ave, eat here for classic Neapolitan pies ready in minutes. True to Neapolitan form, each pizza is beautifully charred, soft and elastic, tender, and fragrant. Major bonus points to Daisuke for the warmest spirit and winningest smile in all of the Pacific Northwest. The pizza here is so perfect in its most basic form, we rarely stray from their classic margherita (tomato sauce, mozzarella, parmesan, and basil) or other simple variants like the Mr. Prosciutto (tomato sauce, smoked and regular mozzarella, and prosciutto). But never fear, Matsumoto’s menu boasts 12 red sauce pies, 6 white pies, and rotating specials.

3.  Apizza Scholls

Lines and crowds during peak hours make it quickly evident to first-timers that Apizza Scholls serves some of the best pizza in Portland. Come here for impressive and delectable neo Neapolitan pies with perfect crust— a crunch on the bottom, but a retaining bread-ey integrity that held together if you folded it. They use an electric oven to achieve a nice, even light scorching so the crust has a bitter burn that balances with the yeasty dough perfectly. There is not a frill in sight at Apizza Scholls, just solid classic pies and a few creatives thrown in for good measure. Get the amatriciana (mozzarella, grana padano, light sauce, red chili flakes, red onions, and house-cured bacon), or if you’re a pineapple on your pizza kind of person, the Pig & Pineapple is delicious. Also worth noting, Apizza Scholls makes an outstanding Caesar salad.

2.  Lovely’s Fifty Fifty

Lovely’s Fifty Fifty serves some of the absolute best pizza in Portland. The pizza here consistently has so many things we love on and in a pizza: organic and naturally leavened dough, locally grown produce, juicy sauces and condiments, and eggs. Plus they have more of everything we love in a pizza: more smell, more color, more character, more taste, more chew. Yet this pizza is not heavyhanded or overdone, just in possession of every good pizza element in its perfect fullness. The wonderfully creative and spirited Sarah Minnick will catch your eye with her use of whole grain flour in her delicious, deep-flavored doughs, and for Lovely’s eye towards aestheticism. Although changing by week and season The Fifty Fifty pie is wildly vegetable-centric, sporting regular players such fenugreek greens, calabrian chiles, and chanterelle mushrooms. 1.  Pizza Jerk

The Best Pizza in Portland - for full review see femalefoodie.com

If you’re truly looking for the Best Pizza in Portland, you cannot avoid a trip to Pizza Jerk. We could eat here twice per week or more and never grow tired of it. It’s Portland’s wonderful, whimsical pizza wizard, serving up gigantic New Haven-style pies that are the perfect cross of nostalgic, cheesy delight, yet still high quality and dangerously addicting. We love the open and friendly vibe at Pizza Jerk, where you feel like anything is possible and no one is judged. Also noteworthy: the lunchtime pizza by the slice availability, and an overall excellent dining choice for kids and families.

Founder Tommy Habetz is notorious for his punked-out pies such as Kale Blazer, made with sausage, Bunk hot peppers, and kale, but his more traditional pies like his classic cheese or pepperoni are equally as delicious and unforgettable. We also love their deep dish “Detroit style” pies– the cast iron pepperoni pie in particular. It’s cheesy, deep and chewy, with wonderfully buttery crisp edges. Finish off your Pizza Jerk pie with a homemade browned butter and sea salt rice krispy treat (see the recipe here), or some of the best soft-serve you can find in town.
