Handmade pastas and locally sourced ingredients make up their perfectly crafted lunch and dinner menus. I think my favorite part about Onesto is their casual atmosphere where you can enjoy finely prepared modern Italian cuisine. This is NOT your neighborhood chain Italian restaurant!

This soup was creamy and thick, with a lovely pumpkin flavor.

It was a lot more filling than a regular soup! And very seasonally appropriate, I must say. My dad ordered their other soup of the day, which was made up of sausage and short ribs. Also amazing! Paired with their bread, olive oil, and butter sprinkled with Portuguese sea salt, you have the perfect starter.

Their housemade gnocchi knocks my socks off every time. Soft and delectable. You obviously have to like mushrooms too (which I do), because there are a lot of them! It’s really the rich and silky sauce that pulls the dish together. I highly recommend for a first timer!

Thin strips of eggplant rolled around a basil ricotta filling, it’s topped with provolone and a walnut pesto. They sit in a sage marinara. If you are looking for a classic Italian dish that is meatless but packed full of flavor, this one is for you!

Female Foodie Milwaukee: OnestoFemale Foodie Milwaukee: OnestoWe decided that you can’t go wrong with dessert, so we chose the delicious lavender chocolate pots de creme, which means “pot of custard.” It’s really like a really thick and chocolaty ganache-like custard. I didn’t detect much lavender flavor, but it was honestly the perfect dish if you’re in the mood for chocolate! It was dense and very chocolaty, but not overly sweet. They sprinkled it with Portuguese sea salt, which was the best part. I love anything sweet sprinkled with a little salt! I recommend it for sharing between two or three.

I’m always a fan of Onesto for their impressive Italian cuisine and kind staff. It’s one of the first restaurants I recommend to out-of-towners. It’s in a great part of Milwaukee and they’ll have something that will appeal to everyone!
