Hi, I’m Brooke
Hi there. I’m Brooke Eliason (pronounced “e-listen”), a Salt Lake City native that’s simply obsessed with all things food. I started Female Foodie in 2010 when I was living in the little touristy town of West Yellowstone, Montana and decided to document my experiences trying every single restaurant in town.
Twelve years later, we have hundreds of restaurant guides and restaurant-inspired recipes powered by yours truly and our incredibly talented team of food writers and recipe developers across the country. It is an honor and privilege to engage in the “work” that I do every day.
My perfect day includes throwing together a decadent breakfast sandwich with James Taylor playing in the background, followed by a long, scenic hike in the mountains, and ending things with a slow, sit-down dinner (pizza or pasta!) with my family outside while the sun sets– don’t forget something chocolate for dessert.
I’m married to my best friend and the love of my life, Cody Eliason, and we love being parents to our two boys, George and Freddie. As a family, we have lived in SLC, Austin, and now the Portland area, and we even spent 18 months on the road, traveling our way through the U.S. and Europe. I have made life-long friends through this foodie adventure and hope to meet you too!
Meet the team
Jillian Fox: Sr. Food Writer & Editor, Austin
A Wyoming native loving the warm Texas sunshine since 2015. Jillian is a Registered Dietitian turned self-taught food photographer, which is perfect for her Austin food bucket list that’s a mile long. Jillian loves cooking new recipes and binge-watching British TV shows when her two cute boys are in bed.
Katie Calton: Recipe Developer, Utah County
A native Utahn but Texan at heart, Katie is usually eating, cooking, or daydreaming about food. Aside from being a passionate eater, Katie is a full-time writer side-hustling as a traveler, artist, and amateur chef. She loves her dog and has been known to get misty eyed at excellent cheeses.
Tyler Anastasio: Recipe Developer
Tyler thinks about what she’ll make for lunch while she’s eating breakfast. A born foodie, she has been living in the restaurant-centric Portland area for ten years by way of the East Coast where she received her BA in fine art & art history. Tyler now uses her artist’s touch to create stunning charcuterie boards and grazing tables for her company WildSalt Studio which she has been running for 3 years. When she’s not conjuring up new recipes she can be found daydreaming about her next trip to anywhere.
Lauren Millington: Sr. Food Writer, Phoenix
Lauren is a full-time event planner from California who recently relocated to Phoenix. She loves to travel and firmly believes the best way to explore a new city is by eating your way through it. When she’s not on the road, she spends all her free time with her husband. They love weekend getaways, hiking, and, of course, eating out!
Ashlyn Hertzberg: Sr. Food Writer, San Francisco
Ashlyn is a San Francisco Bay Area native who recently graduated from the University of Arizona. She loves checking out the local food hot spots since she’s a lover of pizza, sushi, and burritos. Ashlyn also enjoys photography, traveling, going to concerts and staying in binge-watching her favorite shows!
Ellen James: Sr. Food Writer, Washington DC
Ellen is originally from beautiful Moab, Utah, and is the mother of four almost grown children. Working on Capitol Hill keeps her busy, but she spends weekends trying all the incredible food Washington, DC has to offer. If she ever finds free time, you can find her cooking, traveling, playing hostess, or reading (mostly cookbooks).
