Black Sheep Cafe

I have been waiting to try out this Utah County restaurant for MONTHS and was beyond elated that the stars finally aligned. Black Sheep Cafe is a posh Navajo restaurant situated in the heart of downtown Provo. I had more than a dozen friends and foodie acquaintances point me in their direction. It figures.

Our server, Carly, told us that cactus pear lemonade would change our lives. Catus? With pears? We loved this recommendation and, to our surprise, became big fans of this exotic flavor combination. Carly, can we have the recipe??

Ten points for Gryffindor Carly because, yet again, she nailed it with her recommendations. These green chile frites were INCREDIBLE and I have been dreaming of them ever since. House fries + green chile sauce + cheddar jack cheese + crema + green onion + sunny side up egg. Feast your eyes.

The classiest Navajo taco I ever did eat. Braised pork, maple-bay leaf bbq sauce, cheddar-jack cheese, red cabbage-jicama slaw, and red onion over grilled Pueblo bread. Sweet, flavorful, satisfying.

Street corn, because I had to.

The main attraction of our glorious meal. The Bleu Burger: 1/2 lb. burger with bleu cheese, caramelized onion, bacon, cabernet sauvignon reduction, & mayo. The burger was *perfectly* cooked and had a rich, intense flavor. We also went crazzzzzy over the sweet potato fries. Just LOOK at them!

Black Sheep lived up to every bit of its hype! We had a fantastic time dining there and can’t wait to go back. If you’re in or near Provo, make time to stop by this unique and unbeatable eatery.

  1. I have been there and it is worth the wait for the food. The fry bread and flour tortilla is made fresh and the combinations are amazing. When ever we are in Provo we try to hit it foe lunch. We live in NM and its one of our favorite places to eat.

  2. Cactus pear (also known as prickly pear) is the fruit of the cactus not a combination of cactus+pear. They are best eaten on their own, very refreshing in the summer, especially the green variety (rather than the red).
