Lucky Penny is a new-comer to Santa Barbara in the heart of the Funk Zone, which is also a relatively new development near downtown Santa Barbara. In the past couple of years, The Funk Zone has become the trendiest new spot in Santa Barbara– full of wine tasting rooms, art galleries, shops, and most importantly restaurants, which is where Lucky Penny comes in.
It’s hard to resist at least stopping by to check out the menu or taking a photo in front of their very photogenic outer wall made of pennies. Step inside to place your order, then take a number and head back out to choose a table on their outdoor patio.

The pizzas are made to order in a wood fired oven and the perfect size for sharing with a friend.

I went with the LP Classic, the perfect thin crust topped with san marzano marinara, salami, mozzarella, fresh oregano, and chili flakes.
This san marzano marinara is perfection- a cheesy, meaty, pizza with a spicy ending that is sooo good. Just the right amount of spice and flavor. If spicy isn’t your thing, tap into your adventurous side and try the Milpas, made with fingerling potatoes, Mexican chorizo, sunny side up egg, spicy tomatillo marinara, cotija, and cilantro. But really, you can’t go wrong with any of their pizza offerings. They are also open for breakfast and have coffee all day long.
