10. Mrs. Backer’s Pastry Shop: Holiday Cakes

Some of the most beautiful holiday desserts in Salt Lake City come from Mrs. Backer’s Pastry Shop. Established in 1941, this vintage bakery specializes in fluffy, moist, buttercream-iced cakes and cupcakes. The cake itself is extremely light and almost angel-food like, with delicious buttercream frosting. Pre-order ahead for custom cake, frosting, and filling flavors or visit their bakery Tuesday through Saturday for offerings behind their beautiful glass case.

9. Nielsen’s Frozen Custard: Eggnog Concrete

It’s hard to not love the custard from Nielsen’s Frozen Custard in any of their Salt Lake Valley locations, so when we learned that they serve an eggnog concrete (concrete = a really thick shake) in the month of December, we had to see what all the fuss was about. Good news: the concrete is indeed delicious. Not too overpowering but just the right amount of spiced holiday magic, this Christmas dessert in Salt Lake City is a must-try. Pair with any of their mix-ins to add additional texture and flavor- the chocolate chip is clutch.

8. Parsons’ Bakery: Chocolate Chocolate Donut

You’re looking at one of the best cake donuts in Salt Lake City- the chocolate cake donut with chocolate frosting from Parsons’ Bakery in Bountiful. This Davis County treat isn’t found exclusively during the holidays, but with festive sprinkles all month long and a really great foundation of cake and icing, we knew it couldn’t be left out.

7. Hatch Family Chocolates

If you’re a fan of the candy cane Joe Joe’s from Trader Joe’s, then head straight to Hatch Family Chocolates for their Peppermint Joe-Joe Ice Cream! House-made peppermint ice cream with generous pieces of Trader Joe’s candy cane Joe Joe’s and peppermint candy pieces make this one of the best Christmas treats in Salt Lake City! Bonus points for late hours on weeknights and weekends- the perfect place to grab a quick treat after an evening downtown.

6. Normal Ice Cream: All About Olive

Normal® Ice Cream never ceases to amaze us with their clever and delectable ice cream creations. They not only have new flavors and composed cones every month, but unique menu items for both the truck at Trolley Square and their brick & mortar! From their several holiday flavors this season, we highly recommend the All About Olive (available at their store on 900 south)- salted vanilla bean soft serve, olive oil cake bits, olive oil jam, and olive oil powder. Run don’t walk.

5. RubySnap: The Dottie

The Dottie is the perfect Christmas cookie and one of the best Christmas desserts in Salt Lake City! From one of our favorite spots for cookies in town, Rubysnap, this adorable and scrumptious baked good is just as delicious as it is cheery. The Dottie is made of chocolate sour cream cookie dough and topped with a peppermint buttercream frosting. Come to mama!

4. Rockwell Ice Cream: Dark Chocolate Orange Ice Cream

You may think that December and ice cream are an unlikely match, that is until you’ve had Rockwell Ice Cream and swooned over their holiday flavors! Rockwell Ice Cream makes some of the very best ice cream in the state of Utah, so it’s no surprise that their special Christmas flavors served in the month of December are totally worth going out of your way for. Our very favorite is the dark chocolate and orange ice cream, made with sinfully dark chocolate and swirls of orange curd. Decadent and high quality, yet still laced with nostalgia, this scoop is one of our favorite Christmas treats in Salt Lake City!

3. Chip Cookies: Candy Cane Sugar Chip

Chip Cookies has our heart for their warm, crisp on the outside, gooey on the inside cookies that they serve year-round. But one cookie that only comes in December this year is the candy cane sugar chip! Made with a candy cane sugar cookie base and topped with peppermint frosting and crushed candy cane, this chip is the perfect Christmas dessert for a cookie lover!

There’s toffee and then there’s Garden Gate toffee. This family-owned business has been serving hand-dipped toffee since the 40’s, and it’s consistently delicious year after year. With loyal customers and a limited online presence, Garden Gate is only open for less than two months each year- from the first of November until typically the week of Christmas. Milk or dark chocolate, they make the best chocolate toffee you will consume in your entire life. The secret is officially out- this is one of the very best Christmas treats in Salt Lake City.
